Canada Day Recap
Yesterday was the busiest Canada Day I’ve ever experienced. 10 events in 15 hours was a whirlwind. So many hamburgers, so many pancakes, so many handshakes. And in the hundreds of conversations I had yesterday, not one person grumbled about potholes; rather, it seemed like the whole City was alive with energy and optimism. So here’s a quick recap, mostly in pictures, in reverse order:
#Edmonton is a remarkable city in an incredible country. Happy #CanadaDay, #yeg. Be safe on the journey home. pic.twitter.com/6GN1laMirY

Stopped in to the Borden Park BBQ with Councillor Caterina and handed out hot dogs with Mayor Mandel. Unfortunately the pics didn’t turn out. But it’s a great event that many partners, including Northlands, collaborate to bring to the community.
Before that, my team rolled by City Hall to refill on water, took in The Works, visited the Art Gallery of Alberta and cooled off near the fountain with half the City:
This Canada Day Edmonton is even more alive with energy and fun than usual. Love it. by @doniveson
Stopped by the Al Hadi mosque and was very interested to learn more about the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Edmonton. Had a great conversation with several of the youth, who were very excited to get their pictures taken with a mayoral candidate!
Lovely flag raising ceremony at the Al Hadi Ahmadiyya Mosque with @SohiAmarjeet & @karenleibovici. #CanadaDay #yeg pic.twitter.com/esaEJcODBK

The BBQ hosted by that MAC Islamic Centre (Rahma Mosque) in Collingwood was a very thoughtful outreach to the surrounding neighbourhood, on the grounds of the Talmud Torah Jewish elementary school. A heartwarming example of interfaith and intercultural celebration — a fittingly Canadian event!
Citizenship ceremony always brings a tear to my eye. Moving opportunity to reaffirm our own citizenship. #canadaday pic.twitter.com/hRp5G63TjB
