Infrastructure

Edmonton still has a multi-billion dollar infrastructure deficit from years of neglect, combined with a broken funding model among the three orders of government. Rapid growth has only made this worse. Cities are responsible for two-thirds of this country’s public infrastructure, but the city receives only 5 cents of the average person’s overall tax dollar in Edmonton—the feds and province collect the rest. We must work with other cities to press for an end to this fiscal imbalance, otherwise the local property taxpayer will be on the hook for too much of this work.
