Let’s Ride. #YEGCommute

It’s time to have a conversation about how we get where we need to go.

This isn’t a car vs. bike. vs. bus vs. pedestrian debate. In order to improve the commutes of Edmontonians, we need to provide people with a variety of transportation options – including a more efficient transit system and a more robust LRT network.

City Council is committed to building LRT better, including raising or lowering the train over more key intersections to keep pedestrians, commerce, commuters, and buses moving. A more attractive, efficient transit system can provide a better alternative to driving so that there’s less traffic overall for everyone else who must drive. The proposed ‘tram-style’ or ‘urban-style’ LRT train for Valley Line West is designed to integrate with urban communities, stimulate transit-oriented development and synchronize with traffic signals. BRT should complement the LRT network in order to allow us to reach into more suburban communities in a more cost effective manner.

A ‘good commute’ is a healthy balance of different modes and styles. #YEGCommute is a conversation about how we get where we need to go. Follow along, share your commute, I look forward to connecting with you.

  • There is a clear desire for better, more efficient transit. The Transit Review which will come to Council this year will allow us to address concerns about timing, inefficient routes, and more.
  • Congestion is inevitable in a city growing as quickly as ours. In order to improve this, the City has to provide people with a variety of transportation options – including a more robust LRT network.
