Electric Buses in Edmonton

ETS is officially launching Edmonton’s first battery-electric buses today!

This is truly a historic milestone for the City of Edmonton.

One of the electric buses deployed into service today.

For many years I’ve advocated for the adoption of electric buses in our city. Electric buses save the City money and help us reach our energy and climate goals.

They are roughly 30% less expensive to service and maintain than current diesel buses. And the buses produce zero tailpipe emissions (except for a small amount of auxiliary heater emissions, which occur in extreme winter temperatures).

Our purchase of electric buses (40 in total) is historic in that it represents one of the largest purchases of electric buses in Canadian history. We’ll also be the first transit agency in North America to have overhead chargers in transit facilities.

I’m very excited for Edmontonians to experience the perks of a quieter commute with decreased emissions.
