Mayor’s Office Social Media Terms of Engagement
The Mayor’s Communication team monitors social media comments relating to the Mayor for the purposes of responding to questions and informing Edmontonians.
The Mayor’s Office strives to respond to relevant questions and comments in a timely manner, but because we cannot engage in all conversations, we reserve the right to use our judgment in selecting the messages we respond to.
While we encourage our audience to share their thoughts—whether supportive or critical—we ask that those commenting on our social media posts be respectful and courteous.
The Mayor’s Office will not engage in conversations, and may limit or block messages or conduct of the following nature:
- Hateful, obscene, profane, pornographic, defamatory, demeaning, degrading, rude, abusive, aggressive, or violent.
- Comments that promote, foster and/or perpetuate discrimination against an individual, group or organization on the basis of race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, ancestry, marital status, socio-economic status, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.
- That are threatening, intimidating or harassing
- Information that could compromise public safety or security, or operations
- That incites or promotes violence or illegal activities
- Sexual content or links to sexual content
- Contains information that reasonably could compromise individual or public safety
- Comments that are wildly off-topic, highly disruptive or deliberately repetitive.
- Messages that contain spam or advertises or promotes a commercial product or service, or a commercial entity or individual
- Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party
- Messages that impersonate or misrepresent someone else, including public figures, City staff or City officials
Warnings may be given before limiting or blocking access.
The Mayor’s Office is not responsible for any use of material posted by users. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time.
